Quarterback Recruiting Breakdown in Rutgers 2018 Class

What is the latest at quarterback in 2018 after Rutgers target Artur Sitkowski chose Miami over the Scarlet Knights? Scarlet Report breaks it down.

Erial (N.J.) Timber Creek four-star quarterback Devin Leary was a priority recruit before Artur Sitkowski committed to Miami. Nothing changes here. The Scarlet Knights hosted New Jersey's top quarterback at its recent junior day for a detailed sit-down with new coordinator Jerry Kill. Kill will see Leary during spring evaluation and Maryland represents tough competition.

National Targets

A Rutgers offer went out to Penix during the live January period in recruiting. Look for Rutgers to be back in Florida during the spring evaluation period. Penix moved high schools last season, and saw an increase in interest including offers from new Oregon coach Willy Taggart and at Arizona.

Rutgers is one of the newest offers for Mitchell, who represents a spread-style quarterback without a lot of interest (yet) from his local schools. Mitchell's suitors include Rutgers, Northwestern and Arizona.

Notice a trend in recent offers? Rutgers targeted a second wave of quarterbacks since Kill took over the playbook, and Wolf is another example. Like Mitchell and Penix, the nearby big schools do not have offers on the table. While the offer is new, Rutgers' contact with Wolf dates back to last summer.

Sitkowski may be committed to Miami but Rutgers should not close off all communication for the former Central Jersey star quarterback.

Keep Watching Local Names

Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic's Johnny Langan wants to be a quarterback in college. He earned a Rutgers offer after an in-depth 1-on-1 with Kill on a personal visit. The best thing Langan can do is showcase improvement in spring to be considered a quarterback target. Expect schools to offer and recruit him as an athlete, too.

Rutgers offered Henkel during the last spring evaluation period and the evaluation continues. Henkel holds offers from nearby Connecticut and Yale.

Hightstown (N.J.) Peddie School quarterback Allan Walters is committed to Vanderbilt but it is a long way to National Signing Day. Rutgers will be at Peddie plenty of times with the top skill player in the state also on the campus in Jahan Dotson.

There has been minimal contact between Shelton Applewhite and Rutgers in recruiting but could the transfer to Paramus Catholic change anything with his development or recruitment? Don't write him off.

Rutgers will be in at most New Jersey schools during spring evaluation, and Pearson gets another opportunity to impress.
