Video: DeShawn Freeman Wins it for Rutgers, Sends Friend CJ Gettys Out Victorious

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- What did DeShawn Freeman have to say about his game-winning shot for Rutgers? With a 62-59 final over Illinois, Freeman's sixth 3-pointer of the year was the biggest shot for the Scarlet Knights in Big Ten play.

Question: When the ball goes up on the final shot, what are you thinking?

DeShawn Freeman: “I was just praying that it was going to fall. I couldn't see the shot. I couldn't even see it go in. I just heard the crowd. It was unbelievable.”

Question: What do you want to say about Corey Sanders and the game he had?

DeShawn Freeman: “He came out strong, made a few plays and drove to the basket. He gave us huge momentum. For him to dish that out and draw attention to him, it left me out there to shoot it.”

Question: With how close you are to CJ Gettys, what was it like to get him a win in his final home game?

DeShawn Freeman: “I told him before the game, it's love. I'm going to do it for you, do it for Khalil [Batie]. It's not only for them, it's for the fans and the last home game. I just told the guys we don't have anything to lose. Let's go out and put it on the floor and we did.”

Question: CJ Gettys has talked about how he wanted to come in and teach the guys to play harder. Do you feel he accomplished that?

DeShawn Freeman: “Most definitely. He's loud. He talks really loud and gets the guys going. That's what we need.”

Question: What does this do for you guys going into the Big Ten tournament?

DeShawn Freeman: “I feel good. We can't slack off now. … It gives us a lot of momentum going into the game.”

Question: What did coach Steve Pikiell say in the locker room?

DeShawn Freeman: “Coach Pikiell is definitely happy. I'm happy for him.”
