Maryland's top 2018 safety unofficially visited Rutgers for the first time since a verbal scholarship offer. For Upper Marlboro (Md.) Wise three-star defensive back Demetri Morsell, the brief visit only made him want to return for another one.
“I really liked the school, actually,” said Morsell, who also has offers from Buffalo and Charlotte. “I'm going back up this summer to see more of their facilities. They're getting a new practice field and training room and just rebuilding everything.”
Morsell took a brief campus tour, watched practice and met with coaches during a full day at Rutgers.
“it was different (than I expected),” Morsell said. “I knew the coaches knew me, but everybody was talking to me. They all came up, talked to me about the school. I was seeing how the players get along with the staff. They have good relationships.”
Morsell spent the most time in conversations with cornerbacks coach Henry Baker and sophomore safety Damon Hayes.
“Coach Baker is real cool,” Morsell said. “I liked talking to coach Baker. I liked how he talked to me. He talked to me like we're friends. I like that we get along.”
Hayes comes from the same high school as Morsell.
“Damon said the school could be a good fit for me,” Morsell said. “They're working on getting more DBs. Looking at him, I think I could fit with how much he's improved. He's way more aggressive. He's more patient, studying film.”
