Rutgers Offers 2018 South Carolina QB Tyshun Sarratt

Rutgers has a new 2018 quarterback target, and he will be on campus very soon.

Rutgers found success in South Carolina with quarterback Chas Dodd, and could target another on with an offer to Tyshun Sarratt.

Sarratt is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound quarterback out of Gaffney (S.C.). If his upcoming visit to Rutgers goes well, he said he could see himself decide by his May 22 birthday.

“This is the one I've been waiting for,” Sarratt said. “I feel most comfortable with them, and this is the school I've been waiting on. The connections between me and the coaches, me and (quality control coach Scotty) Ohara have a great connection where it's like family to us.”

Sarratt said he will be at Rutgers either Friday or next Friday for an unofficial visit and tour of the campus.

“I know for a fact that I want to commit before my senior year, but when I get up there (to Rutgers), if it all goes well, I could commit on my birthday,” he said.

Offensive coordinator Jerry Kill evaluated Sarratt this morning. He called Sarratt this evening with the verbal offer. The next step, he said, is an in-person meeting with head coach Chris Ash.

“They told me they liked me and that I should stay patient,” Sarratt said. “I got the phone call about an hour ago. … I think where I placed the ball (this morning) was amazing. I only threw a handful of incompletitions. I showed my footwork and my ability to do the read option like Rutgers runs.”

Sarratt has offers from Yale, Harvard, Columbia and Georgia Southern. NC State also recruited Sarratt before it accepted a commitment from Erial (N.J.) Timber Creek quarterback Devin Leary.

Sarratt said education is “a big part” of his final decision. He plans to study sports management.
