Boston College has accepted an invitation to join the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Eagles who were invited by the ACC to join just this morning, accepted the offer shortly after it was communicated to them. Boston College will be holding a press conference perhaps as early as today to make the announcement.
BC, in this ill conceived move, will become the 12th team in the ACC. Much like Penn State in the Big 10, the Eagles will be trading their regional identity for the chance to become part of a superconference. For the ACC it is a win-win situation, but for BC they will be forfeiting both a recruiting base in the East as well as access to the huge NY media market.
Expect UConn to become the dominant team in New England within the next few year if the Big East can find a way to hang onto their BCS invitations.
