Eugene Monroe will only be a junior this fall but is already getting major attention from recruiters. Chris Melvin told me that he thinks that Monroe might already be the best offensive lineman in the state.
"Rutgers, Maryland and Virginia. Virginia just offered on Saturday. I went down to Virginia with Dan Davis. I met Duane Jarrett down there. He liked it there, he is going to take an official visit. I liked it a lot. I liked it a lot. I liked Virginia already, and learned about it from my teammates (Rob Crudup and Dan Davis) but I finally have seen it for myself. Coach Golden took us to all of the football facilities. I spoke to Coach Groh after the tour, then we ate and went on the field. The stadium is beautiful."
"The schools that are offering. Iowa, Wisconsin and Miami. Iowa, Wisconsin, Boston College, Miami, and Nebraska are favorites as well. Miami came to the school today. The linebackers coach told about the school, and how much competition is at their school. They didn't offer me, they are just starting to recruit me. He was straightforward with me."
"They are still one of my favorite schools. I was up there a week ago to drop off a tape. I was talking to the players and the coaches."
"I am doing pretty good. I am in the high 20's in terms of pancake blocks. In one game I pancaked the guy in front of me on three straight plays. We haven't been graded out but I am doing real good in terms of making my blocks. I did good last year but I feel that I am much better. I worked on my speed in the off season and it is easier to get to linebackers."
Expected to be the top player in the state in his senior year. As only a soph he graded out at between 85 and 90 per cent on his blocking and added 43 pancake blocks.
The day after I talked to Gene, Boston College called his coach and extended a full scholarship offer to him.
