Akeem Robinson

Miami (Fla.) Carol City standout Akeem Robinson made the successful switch from tight end to left tackle at the beginning of the season. He gave us a midseason update.

"It's been going really well," Robinson said. "Every game Im getting better and better. I can just feel it. Last week was probably my best game and thats the way it should be. That means I'm learning more and more all the time. I'm really starting to understand the position better now too."

At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Robinson has an NFL body already and doesn't even know it.

"I thought one of my weaknesses was my size at first," he said. "I dont weigh the same as most of the top recruits on the line. But coaches have been telling me the same thing -- my frame is real good, that I have a lot of room to grow and add weight."

The talented lineman is still getting lots of recruiting interest. He talked about that.

"I'm still getting calls every week from
Rutgers and UM," he said. "They call the most. Rutgers is still my only offer. UM just needs to see more of me playing tackle I guess. That's probably the case with all of them, as well it should be. This is my first year on the offensive line."

Robinson is getting strong interest from several other major programs.

Florida calls sometimes and has been in contact," he said. "Maryland and N.C. State call a lot too but not as much as the others. I'm going to Rutgers on December 5th for a visit. I'm thinking about going to Maryland on the 19th but the coach hasnt given me the official OK for that day yet."

The talented lineman said the only thing he has to base his decision on right now is the amount of interest he's getting from each school.

"I can't name a favorite because I havent taken my visits," he said. "Rutgers is showing me the most interest. I think
Miami has offered other tackles and they're just waiting to see on that and what I can do. I've been blessed and it would be nice to get more (offers) but I'm just enjoying the season, trying to help our team win the state title."
