Jerome Hayes (RB/LB, 6'2"-220lbs, 4.5 forty) from Bayonne H.S in Bayonne, New Jersey has been a dominating force on the football field since his first high school game. As a freshmen, he ran for 219 yards on 15 carries in one game.

In his junior year, he ran for 1100 yards and 18 TDs. He added 70 tackles from his weak side LB position. This total is down from his junior year where he registered 118 tackles. This decrease was due to the switching from the strong side LB position to the weak side along with teams running away from him.

His ability to excel on either side of the ball has recruiters lining up from here to Iowa. However, he does not have a preference about which side of the ball he plays on. He states that he likes scoring TDs on offense and "lighting people up' on defense. Simply put, either side of the ball gives him a thrill.

How many offers do you have?

Hayes has scholarship offers from Miami, UVa, WVU, PSU, Rutgers, BC, Mich, MSU, Wisc, Iowa, Connecticut, Syracuse, and Maryland

Who are your favorites?

Hayes stated that it is too hard to pick a favorite right now. The only schools that he has seen are Rutgers and Penn State. He does not want to prejudice the other schools because he has not visited them. Every team that comes to see him, he really likes them. Currently, he really does not have a favorite. He plans to narrow his list down to 5 or 7 by the end of the summer.

What are his feelings on Rutgers?

Since they showed very early interest in him, he stated that they will be one of his five official visits. They sent a letter every week and always showed a lot of interest from his freshmen year.

He likes Coach Schiano, the coaching staff, and the new facilities. He likes the fact that they are getting a lot of the NJ players to visit. Like a lot of people, he feels that Rutgers can be a national powerhouse if they can get a lot of the top players in New Jersey.

What are the three biggest factors in your decision to attend a school?

Academics – good reputation and graduation rate.

Football oriented town – Wants a town that is really involved in the program, similar to Bayonne. He would like a town that shuts down in order to attend the football games.

Relationship with Coaches – He likes the coaches that look him in the eye to say that they would not lie to him and you can see that they are serious.

What other sports do you play and what were some of your best performances?

He plays varsity and AAU basketball. He plays power forward for his High School team and small forward and shooting guard for his AAU team. He averages 14 points and 10 rebounds for his H.S team. For AAU, he plays for St. Michael's of Union City.

Will you attend the Rutgers Junior Day?

Rutgers did a very nice job. Many of the top juniors were at the Junior Day. That shows that they have some interest, which is good.

He stated that their fans are some of the craziest fans in the country. When the recruits entered the arena, the fans cheered "we want you". It was very cool.

Who will assist you in making your decision?

His mother, father, and high school coach. He is looking for everyone's input.

Would you commit early or will you take all 5 visits before making a decision?

He will cut his schools down to three after the season. But he will probably decide on LOI day. He wants to see all of the schools. His coach will not allow him to commit early.
