Florida Receiver Up to 16 Offers
By Mike Carney
Date: May 26, 2004
Coconut Beach, Florida wide receiver Mike Moore already has sixteen offers from teams around the country. Notre Dame is one of those schools. Does the 6-2, 193 pound receiver with 4.48 speed have any interest in the Irish? We found out.
Mike Moore put up some impressive numbers for North Broward Prep his junior season. Moore hauled in 42 catches for 850 yards and 16 touchdowns. Playing safety on defense, he recorded 35 tackles and had 6 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and for good measure, he ran back two punts for touchdowns.
All those numbers did not go unnoticed, as 16 schools have already offered him. Some on the list include Clemson, Wake Forest, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Auburn, Kentucky, Boston College, Kansas, and Rutgers.
Are there any other schools on the verge on offering? "Michigan is real close to offering. They have to look at more of my tape before they decide," said Moore. "Georgia and North Carolina State are also close to offering."
With Notre Dame having already offered, is Moore interested in the Irish? "Yes, their history is real good. I don't know too much about them, but I do know that Coach Willingham has turned around their program."
Moore also added, "I also feel that if I went there, I would have the opportunity to play early and not just sit on the bench. I also hear their campus is really special."
Which Notre Dame coach is recruiting him? "Coach (Trent) Miles is mostly. He's sending me a lot of handwritten mail and emails. He's also stopped by my school for a visit."
Don't expect an early decision for Moore. "I plan of taking all of my visits and waiting until Signing Day before I make my decision," said Moore.
We asked what Moore was looking for in a school. "Number one, it's the coaches. I have to really like and be impressed with them. The atmosphere of the players is important. They have to want to compete. I also want to play for a national championship. I don't want to go to a school that is happy with just winning their conference. The atmosphere of the fan base is important, also."
Would distance play a factor in his choice? "No, that's not a big deal. However, I do want to go where there is warm weather. Location is important for that."
Does Moore have any favorites right now? "I really don't like to put a label on any of the schools by calling them favorites. I'm interested in all the schools that have offered me, plus the Big Three (Miami, Florida, and Florida State).
Moore has a 2.4 GPA and scored a 1000 on the SAT.
