Mike Greco is not your typical sit-in-the-pocket type quarterback prospect. His arm strength combined with his athletic ability are qualities that make Mike a devastating (for opposing defenses) and dominating presence during game situations. Along with Paul McCall (Hollywood Hills, FL.) Mike is one of the top quarterback prospects in the entire state. His skills have not gone unnoticed: Mike Bakas has listed Mike among his Pre-Summer Top 70 rising Seniors in the state of Florida.
We had a chance to discuss Mike's recruiting to date:
How is your recruiting process going? Is it everything you expected?
"It's going OK. Pretty much as expected." Mike does have several offers to date, including Connecticut, South Florida, Central Michigan, Auburn, Iowa, Wyoming, and Bowling Green. Though he lists them in no particular order Mike says that Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina State, and Rutgers are his favorites.
What are the three biggest factors in your decision to attend a school?
"Early playing time is important," says Mike. But by no means an overwhelming factor. Mike also indicates that his relationship with the coaching staff and the type of offense the school runs are both important factors in his decision process.
What other camps are you planning to attend?
Mike is planning on attending several of the camps hosted by his favorite schools. He was, among many other high profile players, at the recent Rutgers camp in Florida. He wasn't particularly pleased with his overall performance, suggesting that he could have accomplished much more. "I went in a little rusty," said Mike regarding the morning session, where he felt his accuracy could have used some improvement. However, Mike was very impressive during the afternoon session, specifically in the 7-on-7 and other drills. At 6'3"/205 he is listed as having run a 4.35/40, which is extremely impressive for any position, and especially so for a quarterback. Insisting that the previous mark was no fluke Mike recorded a 4.37/40 along with a 35" vertical leap at the Rutgers camp.
What are your feelings on Rutgers?
"I like Rutgers. I really do. They didn't offer me [at camp] but I really like the coaching staff." That should be of no surprise to Rutgers fans considering Mike Greco is from the same High School (Cardinal Gibbons HS) that produced current Rutgers quarterback, Ryan Hart. "I talked to Ryan Hart. He really likes it up there - he's having a lot of fun." Though a different style of quarterback than Ryan Hart, it should be of no surprise why Mike lists Rutgers so high atop his list. "I'm a different style of quarterback. I like to roll-out and I love the big play."
Mike isn't certain what official trips he is planning to take. He is planning on attending the Miami camp, and believes he will be taking official visits to North Carolina State, Georgia, and Florida State - he stated this list could change.
Notes: Until this year Mike had played varsity basketball in addition to football. However, he wanted to focus his efforts entirely on football and decided to not play basketball this previous season.
