Todd Dorcelus - Looking for an RU Offer

Irvington HS (Irvington, NJ) WR Todd Dorcelus is one of the many New Jersey prospects that have a high interest in Rutgers. Tall and well-built, Todd stands at 6'2" and 180 pounds, and may soon become one of the more sought after prospects in the entire state. Todd took some time to talk to us about his recruiting process and his interest in Rutgers.

The fact that Todd has RU connections may not come as a surprise to Rutgers fans - currently attending the same high school as the former #1 ranked DT in the country, Nate Robinson, is what most fans know about.  That his brother played for the Rutgers Men's basketball team (Sloan Baptiste), most fans may not know about.  A hard worker, Todd is hoping to get an offer from Rutgers soon.  Known as a possession wide receiver Todd has been known to blow up opposing defenses from time to time with big plays.

Todd is a very good student and is fully qualified: "I currently have a 3.4 GPA and a score of 970 on the SAT."  One gets the feeling that grades are very important to him because he also offered, "I plan on taking the SAT again because I would like to raise my score."
Todd currently holds scholarship offers from eight schools.  "I currently hold offers from Minnesota, North Carolina State, Virginia, Indiana, Connecticut, Central Michigan, and Hofstra."  He would really
like to add an offer from Rutgers to that list.
Of important note is the database comment noting that Todd attended the Virginia and Maryland camps.  Todd, however, indicated otherwise: "I did not attend either of those camps."
Virginia is one of the schools showing interest in Todd.  "Virginia offered me through my coach.  I am currently being recruited by D'Onofrio [tight end and special teams Coach at NC State] ".  Mark has been recruiting the state of NJ hard for Virginia and has already received four commitments from NJ prospects for the 2005 Virginia recruiting class.
Many factors play into a prospect committing to a particular school.  Some of these factors consist of location, early playing time, and coaching style. The biggest factor in Todd's recruitment is
location.  "Rutgers and Syracuse are real plusses because of location.  That is most important to me."
Without a doubt, an additional factor that may help swing a prospect to a certain school is the influence of a former teammate currently attending the school showing interest. That is the case
with Todd who happens to be very good friends with 2003 Scarlet Knight signee Nate Robinson.  "Nate told me it's a fun place to be and there is a winning attitude.  [He said] Our goal is to win the Big East.  Rutgers football is really on an upswing."
Where does Todd currently stand in his evaluation process of the schools recruiting him?  "I'm researching all schools".  He is currently being recruited to Rutgers by Defensive Backs Coach Chris Demarest. He said, "I have been told I could possibly play Safety".  He has very good hands so moving him from his natural position of WR to Safety would be a viable option.
He was also quick to comment on Coach Schiano. "Coach Schiano is a great guy.  The few times I have had to talk with him he has been very straight up with me."  Todd was in attendance at the
Rutgers Spring Game as well and added, "Coach Schiano is an all business guy and I was impressed with him at the Spring Game."
Although he had hoped to attend the recent Greg Schiano Football camp other circumstances intervened, making him unable to attend.  He also added: "As it stands right now, I won't be able to
attend any camps this summer due to other circumstances."
