New Jersey standout, Tiquan Underwood, has become the latest verbal commitment to Greg Schiano's Scarlet Knights. Tiquan, from Notre Dame HS in Lawrenceville NJ, was named All-Area in 2003 and excelled at multiple positions. In Tiquan Rutgers receives yet another athlete with the ability to play a multitude of positions. However, he is likely headed for the WR position at the collegiate level.
Tiquan participated at the recent Greg Schiano football camp for one day. During that time he ran the 40 yard dash twice, 4.52 on his first go-around and 4.45 seconds on his second.
Having had the opportunity to meet with several of the Florida campers, Tiquan was particularly impressed with another tall and rangy WR: Chris McClover. In all, the level of talent present at camp was, offered Tiquan, notable.
The Rutgers coaching staff has received rave marks up to date from a
multitude of athletes we have had the pleasure of talking to. To be sure,
it was no different this time around: "As for the coaching staff, everyone seems
loyal and I got such a good vibe." Tiquan had particular praise for Coach
Susan: "From the very beginning I was always impressed with him."
Without a doubt, a factor that typically aids a prospect in one direction or another is location. One of Coach Schiano's primary goals over the years has been to keep the best that the Garden State has to offer at Rutgers. Surprisingly, though from a relatively nearby location, distance was not an important factor in this instance: "Actually location was never really a factor."
Before concluding our conversation, Tiquan had one last parting message to all Rutgers fans, a nice gesture underlining the level of conviction this young man has:
"Definitely be excited about the future [of the program]. We're
going to do some big things around here."
