John Garcia - Update on Big Man

John Garcia, a 6-foot-9 center/power forward from Brentwood High School in New York, was one of the last players chosen for the Reebok ABCD camp. Yesterday, in his two games of competition, he proved he belonged with the best high school players at this camp.

John Garcia scored 15 and 13 points in his two matches. He made numerous blocks and averaged almost 10 rebounds per game. It's likely that Garcia, if he continues his great play, will have many more scholarship offers after this camp.

"I am hearing from Pittsburgh, Villanova, Connecticut, Rutgers, St. John's, DePaul, Virginia Tech, Richmond, Providence, Hofstra, and Seton Hall," Garcia said. "I haven't heard much from Cincinnati or Syracuse recently."

Garcia said he has many offers. DePaul was the latest school to offer. "Providence, Villanova, Seton Hall, Richmond, Virginia Tech, St. John's, Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Villanova have all given me the impression they would take me if I committed," he said. "I will wait until after the summer is over and see what schools I will visit."

Garcia, who stated that Rutgers was very high on his list, is not sure when he might make a decision. But the soft-shooting big man from Long Island thinks it could be in the Fall. "I am still open," Garcia said. "I don't have a favorite right now. I am just trying to work on my game. I want to get quicker. Be more quicker laterally."

Garcia is expected to play with Chris Phillips' New York Elite at some events.
