Best Player in Canada?

Scarborough (Ont.) Notre Dame running back <b>Jerome Messam</b> (6-3, 230, 4.36) is considered as Canada's top football prospect for the 2005 recruiting class. As a junior, he piled up over 2,000 yards rushing and 26 touchdowns in only nine games.

"I get the ball and go basically," said Messam. "Speed is a big part of my game."

College recruiters from all over the nation have flocked to Ontario to get a glimpse of this freak of a specimen.

"I've been getting mail from Miami. They saw me at camp in May and told me that they want to see my film.

"I have offers from Rutgers and South Carolina."

Messam has his eyes on one of the Big Ten's premiere football programs.

"Michigan State is my leader," he said. "It's close to home and my family can come see me play. I've been following them since T.J. Duckett was there."

Will Messam commit if he receives an offer from the Spartans?

"I'm going to wait until all of my offers come in, so I can see which place is the best for me."

When will Messam reach a decision?

"It's going to weigh heavily on my visits. If I feel comfortable at the college and how I get along with the coaching staff and teammates."

Messam has a 2.6 GPA and is awaiting on his test scores.
