John Garcia on Why He Trimmed His List

This past week TheInsiders' Mike Sullivan reported that John Garcia had trimmed his list down to five schools. Many Rutgers fans wondered how John arrived at this decision.

Brentwood High School center John Garcia (6'9" and 230 pounds) recently trimmed his Top 5 list to St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Pittsburgh, and ConnecticutRutgers fans may have been somewhat surprised to see Rutgers' name not included among the big man's favorites.

The Scarlet Knights are currently pursuing a handful of big men, John Garcia being one of them.  However, John felt that Rutgers pursuit of a number of Centers with only one scholarship available for the 2005 recruiting class left was somewhat of a turn-off.  Indeed, many Rutgers fans feel that the school's number one priority for the spot is Andrew Bynum.  An additional factor leading to John's decision to cut Rutgers off his short list dealt with the uncertainty of Gary Waters Head Coaching position at Rutgers.  Undoubtedly, John was referring to the now-filled position at Ohio State - nevertheless, this was a factor.

With Rutgers seemingly off John Garcia's list of schools he intends to look at one may believe Gary Waters and Co. may conclude their recruiting of the New York prospect.  That is not the case.  Members of the Rutgers coaching staff are currently present in Orlando, FL., the location of the showcase tournament John is presently attending.
