Brian Cushing Discusses His Visit to Rutgers

One of the most aggressive linebackers in the nation, Brian Cushing, paid a recent visit to his state university, Rutgers. Find out some of his thoughts after the conclusion of his most recent trip.

Brian Cushing (Bergen Catholic HS, NJ) is not just one of the top prospects in the Garden State, but one of the most sought-after recruits in the country. The four star prospect is ranked #10 in the nation at his linebacker position.

Was Cushing's trip a success? "Oh yeah, it went real well. I learned a lot about the school, I learned a lot about their [Rutgers] defense. I toured the campus, and saw parts of it that I wasn't aware of before, like College Avenue. It's just like a college town. It was great."

Cushing spent the day with not just one or two members of the staff, but with several. "I was with Coach Rizzi, with Coach Schiano, with Jay Butler [Strength and Conditioning] going over what they have planned for me."

Cognizant of the recent Scarlet Knight commitment of Brian Roche, Brian thought it was very important for the staff to get a few big early verbals. "I think it just gets stuff going in the right direction. It's very important."

Currently a teammate of Jim Dray's at Bergen Catholic, Brian did suggest that he and Jim could wind up playing together on Saturdays. "We talk about that a lot. Sometimes we're just fooling around but sometimes we're serious. And it's important because we're good friends."

Not yet knowing what official visits he plans to take and not having a list of favorites, Cushing says that he's still taking everything in and learning about the various schools he has been offered by. However, Rutgers fans should be plenty enthused that their state university is now on the map of this high-profile recruit.
