FLORIDAKIDS.us CLASS OF 2005 RECRUITING EVALUATION:

While you can find out just so much about watching film on an athlete or talking to him on the phone, there is a major advantage to seeing the athlete live. I have been fortunate to see more high school football players in person in the state of Florida than any other source.

What I will do is use my 30 plus years of evaluating talent on the football field to give up a complete opinion on the top football players in the Class of 2005.

I hope you enjoy this rare look into the football players in the state from a firsthand:

PLAYER: Andrew Atkins
SCHOOL: Tampa Leto
POSITION: LB
HEIGHT: 6-2
WEIGHT: 195
www.floridakids.us PRE-SPRING RATING: Not rated.

THE SCOOP ON THIS FLORIDA KID: All I can say, here, is that I watched him play last season and never really knew it. Not because he didn't have outstanding ability, but my mind was on two players he competed against.
EVALUATION: "We have been trying to make defensive ends into linebackers so much this season in this state, true linebacker prospects like this, have simply flown way beneath the radar screen.
As I said about Fort Lauderdale Dillard's Jon Demps of Pensacola Washington, linebackers are not made, they are born with that certain something and this is someone who certainly has those instincts to be very, very special at the next level.
From a pure evaluation standpoint, he has great size, tremendous quickness and the knowledge of where to be on certain plays. Some of that is teaching, but a lot of it is pure instinct. This is someone who plays with his hips settled and head on a swivel, always putting himself in a position to make plays."
THE INSIDE STORY: This is an emerging star in this state, and whether he is recognized early on – or will be singled out after the season, he will be a player who will sign at a big time program next year.
