Rutgers head coach Gary Waters was one a few schools showing their love for St. Joe's big man Andrew Bynum yesterday evening at a planned scrimmage in South Jersey. Waters, who also spent a great deal of his recruiting evaluation time in July watching Bynum and this AAU team, the New Jersey All Stars, was one of a few head coaches that made the trip in the goal of watching Bynum work out.
The workout never happened for Bynum, who was nursing a sore foot, an injury he sustained in the final of the Showcase. New Jersey had won the Showcase with a convincing victory over Martin Brothers Select. Rutgers recruits Anthony Farmer and Jaron Griffin were big positive factors for the All Stars in the tournament win.
Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun and Georgia Tech head coach Paul Hewitt were also on hand to watch Bynum while assistants from Georgia and Georgetown also showed some love for Bynum. Unfortunately, for most of these programs, most had already left when Bynum appeared, according to sources close to Bynum.
Bynum also has mentioned interest in North Carolina. Bynum also stated he is likely to visit Connecticut, Georgia, North Carolina, and maybe Georgia Tech. He has already been to the Rutgers campus a few times unofficially.
Bynum told the Insiders Report he has no favorite and is unsure when he is going to start taking official visits.
