Similar to good left offensive tackles tall cover cornerbacks are difficult to find. Malcolm Jenkins (WR/DB, 6'1"-180lbs) from Piscataway High School in Piscataway, New Jersey is one of those tall cover cornerbacks that schools covet. Although he has only five offers, they are from his favorites. They are from Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Indiana. He has narrowed his choices to Rutgers, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech.
Jenkins had the opportunity to visit his top three schools. During his visit to Ohio State, he developed a good relationship with their defensive back coach. Since this visit was during camp, he had an opportunity to see his coaching style and learn a number of new techniques. Jenkins also likes the tradition of the program along with the support the town provides to it. The reputation of the Business School is a real plus.
Of Virginia Tech, he likes the campus and the coaches. Since he visited the school for an unofficial visit and not for camp, he did not have an opportunity to experience the style of the coaches. But he liked the interactions he had with them. He also likes the business school and the atmosphere on campus.
Jenkins likes the fact that Rutgers is in his hometown and the way they make him feel at home. The opportunity to play early is also an attractive feature of the program. The fact that there are a number of former teammates on the team seems to be a plus. Jenkins has developed a good relationship with the Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano.
A decision might be coming shortly on his college destination. He hopes to make a decision in the next two weeks. If he does not decide during that time, he hopes to make a decision shortly after the season. As a result, he will take a few visits during the season or shortly there after. He stated that if he was not a football player, he would go to Rutgers due to the proximity to home. But the fact that he will play football in college changes his perspective. He also states that his family will travel to see him play where ever he attends. Since he has family members in Virginia and Ohio, the distance will not play a factor in his decision.
