For skilled players, coaches typically look for players with good quickness, speed, and the potential to play a number of other positions. Danny Oquendo (WR/DB/KR, 6'2"-180lbs, 4.45 forty) from Hackensack High School in Hackensack, New Jersey meets all categories. What is surprising about Oquendo is the fact that he has been a standout player since his sophomore year and due to a late birthday; he is only 16 years old. Which means that his body is only starting to mature and his best football is still ahead of him.
Oquendo currently has 11 offers along with interest from numerous other schools. He lists his favorites as Rutgers, Maryland, Boston College, Virginia Tech, and Pittsburgh. Among those schools, Maryland and Rutgers top the list.
On Thursday, August 5th, he will be visiting the Rutgers campus. Since his uncle, Walter King was a standout WR for Rutgers, he has had an opportunity to visit the campus numerous times. He feels that he has spent his whole life on the Rutgers campus. As a result of the proximity of the Rutgers campus to Oquendo's home, he expects to visit the campus a number of times before making his final decision.
On Saturday, August 7th, he will be visiting Maryland. The success that they have had in the past few years along with the beautiful campus and his relationship with the coaches makes them his co-leader.
He has not determined all of the schools that he will take his official visits to. However, Rutgers and Maryland will definitely be one of them.
He hopes on making a decision during the season or shortly thereafter.
Since he is one of the prospects that is writing a recruiting journal for Mike and the Big Dog, we will closely follow his recruitment.
