Kitt Pommels - Wouldn't Mind Playing Close to Home

An exceptional athlete, equally comfortable playing both sides of the ball, Kitt Pommells continues to accumulate offers from some of the most prestigious programs in the country. Primarily a wide receiver, Pommells has done it all for Paterson Catholic HS including playing running back, defensive back, returning kicks and filling in at kicker, punter and long-snapper. Pommells spent some time with Rutgers.TheInsiders.com and discussed the possibility of playing close to home in college.

Possessed with 4.44 speed, the 6-foot 1, 195-pound wide receiver and safety is considered by Paterson Catholic head coach Benjie Wemberly to be the most talented player that he has ever coached. This is quite a statement considering that Wemberly has coached Rocky Ricks, Chenry Lewis, Davon Clark and Lorenzo Crawford amongst others. "I have been coaching kids for over 14 years now and I have never coached a player as good as Kitt," said Wemberly.

Considered the fastest player on the Paterson Catholic team, Wemberly believes that Kitt Pommells is the prototypical strong safety. When asked where he preferred to line-up in college, Pommells expressed no preference. "I love to play football. What it is most important to me is finding a school that graduates its players and that has a strong family atmosphere."

To date, Pommells has received offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Maryland, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame and Duke. Pommells conceded that although the constant barrage of phone calls have grown somewhat tiring, he appreciates all of the interest shown in him. "I will probably take all five official visits and don't expect to make my choice until national signing day."

Where does Pommells see Rutgers amongst his many suitors?

"Playing close to home is extremely important to me. I would like to have my friends and family be able to see me play." When asked if it was important to attend college and play with some of his former Paterson Catholic teammates, Pommells stated, "Jerrel Robinson and I have been friends since grammar school and I like the idea of attending college with Jerrel."

Coach Schiano is recruiting Pommells and receiving the personal attention of the head coach indicates to Pommells the level of commitment that Rutgers is showing in trying to secure his services. "I am very impressed with Coach Schiano and the facilities and academic programs that have been developed for the football players. I am definitely considering Rutgers."
