Chris Barney - Super OL Deciding on Visits

"<b>I would love to come to visit</b>," stated <b>Chris Barney</b>, one of the top offensive linemen in all of Florida (Miami-Northwestern High School, FL). Some may be surprised when they hear who the super OL prospect was referring to.

Chris Barney has emerged as one of the nation's elite offensive line prospects.  Ranked as the 26th best at his position by TheInsiders.com, Barney has received numerous offers including Miami, North Carolina State, Oklahoma, USC, Iowa, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers.  Barney entered the national spotlight by means of a superb junior season which saw him being named to the class 6A all-state first team in addition to receiving all-conference honors.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds, Barney is an imposing specimen when he steps on the football field.  Blessed with good feet, he is equally adept at run blocking as he is at pass blocking.  As a result he doesn't favor one particular offense over any other, when considering his upcoming selection of a college.

Many Insiders would suggest that the hometown school, Miami, is the team to beat for this prospect's services.  While that may be true, Barney has reiterated once again that he does not have a Top 5, but instead holds on to a list of schools that are recruiting him and that he remains interested in.

"Everything is going good.  Not many surprises," stated Barney.  "Right now Rutgers, Michigan State, and North Carolina are recruiting me the hardest."  The Tar Heels, one of the latest schools to intrude on the Barney sweepstakes, have yet to extend an offer.

Scarlet Knight fans may be a little bit surprised at just how familiar the big man from Northwestern is with their program.  "I was at the camp last year and I was at the camp this year, [both] here in Florida.  I was really impressed at how they run things.  They have a way of going about things that's different."

"I loved it.  I would love to come on an official visit to visit the campus."  Barney was slated to visit during the time of the Michigan State game.  "I have an [SAT/ACT] exam right around that time, but I will still come for an official visit."

Previous reports have indicated that Barney wants to attend college with two of his Northwestern teammates, Dustin Forston (6' and 210-pounds: DE/LB) and Leron King (6' 1" and 205-pounds: LB/DE).  Is that still the case today?  "Oh yeah, we're trying to get together to go to the same school."

Barney has been in contact with current Scarlet Knight and former Miami-Northwestern standout Dondre Asberry.  "Dondre is one of my former teammates.  He just tells me how it's going up there.  And he really likes it.  He and I we've been talking.  Rutgers, they're a team on the rise and I know about them from the camps I've been to down here."

Barney has been ranked highly in numerous publications including No. 26 in Larry Bluestein's Pre-Season CLASS OF 2005 – TOP 200, No. 14 on Charles Fishbein's Pre-Season Top 100 – Class of 2005, and No. 36 on Mike Bakas' Top 101 - Pre-Season Class .

At this time Barney says has no set timetable on when he envisions himself making a decision.  "I'll probably decide toward the middle or end of the season."
