Danny Oquendo (DB/WR/KR, 6'2"-180lbs, 4.45 forty) from Hackensack H.S in Hackensack, New Jersey visited the Rutgers campus on Friday, August 6th. As a result of his uncle (former Rutgers standout, Walter King) attending Rutgers, Oquendo has visited the Rutgers campus on numerous occasions. However, this trip was to allow his mother to review the academic support structure and talk to the coaches.

His mother left the Rutgers campus impressed with the academics support and Coach Schiano. The fact the Coach Schiano knew each of the players' grade point averages along with the number of full-time academic support personnel left her impressed. She quoted Coach Schiano as saying that "this is College Football and College is before football". The emphasis on academics was what she was looking for in a program. She also liked the time management and tutoring (additional instruction) that was in place for each athlete.

Danny's mother did say that the fact that her brother and sister went to Rutgers makes them partial to the school. This latest visit to the Rutgers campus does not seem to have changed that fact.

For Danny, Rutgers remains among one of his top schools. Although he has seen everything that Rutgers has to offer (as far as academics and facilities), he likes how Coach Schiano has continued to build the program through better recruiting, academic support, and the improvement to the facilities.

On Saturday, August 7th, they will be visiting the Maryland campus. Danny's mother will again review the academic support structure and the program's commitment to academics. She stated that she has not been on the Maryland campus since her college days. But she does like the College Park area.

Of Maryland, Danny likes the success that they have had in the past few years along with the proximity to home. The Baltimore area is also a big plus due to its access to numerous activities.

Obviously, Danny's mother will play a big part in his decision making process and ensure that he makes an informed decision. They are planning a decision during the middle of the football season or shortly after the season.

Note:
Danny will be returning to Rutgers on Monday, August 9th. He will be accompaning by his teammate Davon Smart, who will be taking his unofficial visit.
