Four Likely Visits

Linebacker Jerome Hayes is narrowing things down a bit. He knows of four likely official visits and two teams are currently fighting for that last spot.

"We start full pads tomorrow (Monday)," said four-star linebacker prospect Jerome Hayes. "I am excited and well prepared. I take great pride in running and hitting and I want to win that state title and get that touchdown record."

Hayes, 6-2 and 228 pounds, stars on both sides of the ball for Bayonne (N.J.) High School at running back and mike linebacker. He needs 27 touchdowns to break the school record for career touchdowns. "57 is the career record and 27 is actually the single season record so I can get both this season. I am also close to the all-time tackle record."

Records aside Hayes wants to win and move on. He has already taken upon himself to camp at schools and make unofficial visits to get ahead start on the recruiting process. This past summer he camped at Syracuse, Rutgers and Florida and took an unofficial to Miami.

"Well, I discovered that Syracuse is not really for me. Rutgers is a place that I will watch pretty closely. I like them a lot but I still need to see some things from them as far as continuing to develop that program.

"Florida's a place where I had a good time and I really like their linebacker coach (Bill Miller). He took me through some drills and I love the Swamp. They have a nice team.

"I flew down to Miami and liked it a lot. I watched film of previous Miami greats. It was a great experience. Miami speaks for itself."

For now, Hayes believes that he knows of four visits he'll take in the coming weeks.

"It looks like I will visit Miami, Florida, Rutgers and Michigan State for sure. Michigan State has been recruiting me since day one and they were my second offer (Rutgers was first). It's a real good situation for me there and they have a few players from New Jersey.

"Tennessee and Virginia Tech are kind of battling it out for the fifth visit. "Coach Slade from Tennessee has really impressed me and I would love to play in front of 110,000 people. Virginia Tech is a team I am still kind of researching.

"There are some other teams fighting for that fifth visit too. I just want to see how team's do this season and take my visits."

All have offered Hayes but Miami at this point.
