Mike Ford is an athlete in every sense of the word. Besides excelling on offense, defense, and special teams, he also runs track for Sarasota HS. Ford's major success has come at the running back position, where he averaged nearly 120 yards per contest this past year. Not to be outdone, he excelled at track as well, where he has posted sub-11.0 times in the 100m.
"Right now, recruiting is going pretty good. It's been really more my grades, why it hasn't been that great. They were pulling me down. At first I had a pretty low GPA but my coach was saying I should go to summer school."
Ford is the type of athlete that would have received serious had it not been for his grade issues. However, he indicated that he has attended and completed the summer classes necessary to improve his core GPA. As a result, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Carolina, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh have all offered. Plenty of schools, however, are now beginning to pay close attention to the talented athlete from Sarasota, including Miami, Florida, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Notre Dame.
Due to his late start Ford is just beginning to learn about the schools pursuing him. "I don't know too much about Rutgers, but there are a lot of schools I don't know about.; But I'm getting to know about them now."
Ford indicated that he doesn't mind playing close to home or going out of state. "To be honest, I don't mind playing in state or out. One of the things I'll be doing is just look at the roster and see where I can fit in."
Ford indicated that he will re-take both the SAT and ACT to improve upon his previous scores. He knows the offers will keep coming if he can focus on his grades and improve his core GPA.
