New York's Barksdale names six favorites

Farmingdale (N.Y.) running back <b>Anthony Barksdale</b> gained 970 yards and scored 10 touchdowns as a junior but that was at Northern Burlington High School in Columbus, New Jersey. Barksdale has moved on and he's ready for the 2004 season.

"I started at running back for Burlington since my freshman year until we moved to Farmingdale last year." Barksdale said.

"I've had to learn a new offense and get used to new teammates but everything is fine. I have a couple of scholarship offers right now.

"North Carolina and Michigan State have both offered me a scholarship. Michigan State is my leader because they run a lot of one back sets and they pound the ball.

"North Carolina wants me to play fullback and even defense. I want to play running back."

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Barksdale is a bruising runner that averaged 7.5 yards per carry in 2003. He was named all-conference and all-area as a junior.

"My favorites are Michigan State, North Carolina, Rutgers, Maryland, Virginia and U Conn.

"I don't have any official visits set up yet. I'm going to wait a while for doing any of that stuff." Anthony Barksdale also letters in basketball. He carries a 3.1 GPA and scored 980 on his SAT.
