NJ Defender Receives First Offer

Last fall the New Brunswick (NJ) high school team featured USC recruit Dwayne Jarrett, The Zebras had a tremendous season winning the Group 2 state championship and compiling a perfect 12-0 record. Jarrett is gone but the cupboard is not bare for coach John Quinn as he returns several key players from last year's title run. Among the returning starters is 3rd team All-State linebacker Al-Teric Balaam (6-0, 210, 4.5).

Al-Teric Balaam Profile

Balaam has received an offer from Akron and a host of interest from schools such as Rutgers, Virginia, Penn State, Syracuse, Iowa, and Pittsburgh. This summer Balaam attended the annual Walt Harris Football camp at the University of Pittsburgh.

"They were really interested and asked me to come to camp. I went to the camp and performed well but I wasn't offered. They called me last week and said that they were still very interested," said Balaam

Balaam had an outstanding season for the Zebras as a junior he made 121 tackles, 50 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 1 interception, and he forced 2 fumbles. "You said 50 tackles for loss?" I asked Balaam.

"I had 50 tackles for loss, that's why I can't understand why I have only received one offer so Far."

Besides his All-State honors Balaam was named 1st team All-Area, 1st team All-Middlesex, and 2nd team All-Group 2. If Balaam has a season comparable to last years he will surely add to his offer collection.

Al-Teriq lists his favorites as Maryland, Rutgers, PSU, Virginia, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Akron.

"I like those schools because they are all close to home. Akron offered me but I don't know a lot about that program right now."

Balaam finished his junior year with a 2.8 GPA, and he scored 900 on the SAT.
