Chris Barney's Miami-Northwestern squad went 12-1 last year. With high
expectations coming into this year Chris Barney and his HS team have not
disappointed in the early going.
A massive specimen that would help boost quite a few offensive lines, Chris Barney (Miami Northwestern HS, Miami, FL) has enjoyed a positive start to his Senior season.
"Everything is going pretty well. We beat Dillard our first game. We're 2 and 0 right now. We're not where we want to be but we're getting there."
In past years, Barney has played on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. However, this year, Barney will see action only on the offensive side of the ball. "It's something the coaches asked me to do. They felt it decreased the chance of injury if I play on one side only."
As far as the recruiting saga goes, it is pretty much the same story as with most other high profile recruits across the nation. Barney has been in contact with many of the schools recruiting him, talking to coaches and trying to get a feel for where he may want to spend the next four or five years. Indeed, previous publications have indicated that the premiere offensive lineman may favor one school over all the others: Miami. Is that the case?
"Yes, you could say that. But I'm still considering other schools."
Barney was in attendance for the Miami/Florida State game a little less than two weeks ago. The south Florida prospect was left impressed by the performance of both teams. "It was just such a great game. Miami was more determined. The crowd was absolutely awesome."
Barney has previously indicated that several other schools, including North Carolina State, Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma, and Rutgers, to name a few, are also recruiting him hard. Where does the standout list Rutgers?
"Yes, they're still on my list. They'll probably be one of my official visits later on. I heard about the game when they played Michigan State." Though Barney did not watch the telecast he was impressed with what he heard about Rutgers' performance and the overall direction of the program. With more television appearances upcoming for the Scarlet Knights, including a potential official visit on the way, Barney will have a chance to see the Rutgers program up close.
TheInsiders ranks Barney as the No. 25 offensive lineman in the nation. Though he has no set timetable on when he plans to decide, fans should not expect a decision any time soon. For now, Barney is intently focused on his upcoming game, and the opportunity to help improve his team's record to 3 and 0.
