College coaches regard corner back and defensive tackle as the two hardest positions to recruit. Therefore, standout players at these positions are obviously prized recruits. One of those recruits high on many schools list is Michael Ray Garvin (5'9"-185lbs, 4.3 forty) from Don Bosco High School in Ramapo, New Jersey. Garvin is regarded as one of the fastest DBs in the country and has recorded a sub 4.3 forty yard dash time at various combines.
His blazing speed coupled
with his nack for big plays has earned him over 35 scholarship offers. However,
he has narrowed his list down to five schools. They are Georgia,
Florida State, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Boston College.
On the weekend of September 23rd, Garbvin visited Florida State. He stated that the visit was " real good i was impressed with the school and I felt comfortable with the coaches". During the visit, he was hosted by Tony Carter, a freshman DB, and had the opportunity to experience the Florida State campus during the season. However, he states that he has no leader and they were his first visit because the way it fit into his schedule.
Of the remaining schools on his list, he stated:
- They are in the big 12, which is a good conference. They have a highly ranked
- Georgia - The SEC always has good wideouts to cover and they are also ranked high this year
- Colorado - They are in the Big 12. My dad is from there, so he likes the school and they are pretty good
What about his state university - Rutgers?
He stated that they have a chance to obtain his services. However, the loss to New Hampshire really hindered their chance. A turnaround in their season is needed to vault them back into his favorites list again.
Garvin hopes to make a decision after the football season.
Note: Garvin has Don Bosco focused on another state championship with a 2-0 start and a win over Bergen Catholic. Individually, he has goals of 22 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and 50 tackles.
