Chancellor Almost There

Florida cornerback Chris Chancellor (5-9, 153, 4.5,'s #34 CB, 3 stars) still denies a leader but favors Florida State (1/7 official trip), Clemson (1/14), Oklahoma State (12/3), South Florida (1/21) and Rutgers (10/29).

"I will make my decision by this Friday (1/28) as to where I'll commit," says Chancellor, from Miami Edison. "I've got to talk to my family about this and everything.

"Florida State has one of the top defenses in the nation. And I really like coaches Bobby Bowden and Mickey Andrews (defensive coord). A lot of Miami players go there and they're known for sending CBs to the NFL.

"Clemson has got a good sports program and the academics are great. Coach Tommy Bowden is a real cool guy. It's like he likes to joke around with you, but he's serious when it's time to get on the field.

"Plus Brian Dawkins of the Philadelphia Eagles went there. They're also known for putting corner's into the league.

"Oklahoma State is looking kind of good right now. It's just so cold there. The parties there are all right…the atmosphere is not like FSU or Clemson. They've got a little college town with not much to do really.

"My trip to South Florida this past weekend went all right. Brouce Mompremier (linebacker) was my host. We had fun hanging out and going to a party and stuff.

"The highlight of the trip was talking with coach (Jim) Leavitt about their offer and speaking to each other man to man.

"They're an up-and-coming program and I like how they're moving to the Big East. They've also got some new facilities and they're going to be good in the future.

"Rutgers has some nice facilities as well. That's a big factor with them. They've got one of the biggest weight rooms in the nation. And with coach (Phil) Galiano (linebackers) there it makes a big impact on the program.

"As far as going to Florida on an official, well…I haven't spoken with the coaches there lately."
