Cedric McGee (6-foot-1 and 180 pounds) out of Plantation High School (Plantation, FL) was all set to visit Rutgers two weekends ago. Flu symptoms, however, kept the prospect in bed and did not permit him to trip to the New Jersey school.
During midweek, McGee all but ruled out Rutgers, feeling that it would be impossible to select a school that he had not yet been to. Add to that an end of the week visit to Illinois, one of the other schools in his top three, and Rutgers was on the outside looking in.
The trip to Illinois never took place.
"They called me the day before I was supposed to come and they told me that they had gotten commitments from a couple of the receivers they were looking at." Illinois had filled their quota, and for the second straight weekend, a recruiting visit that would enable McGee to better evaluate the school of his choice, never materialized.
Where does that leave McGee today? And where does that leave Rutgers?
"Yeah, it's down to Rutgers and Pittsburgh. Those are my final two," stated McGee.
McGee stated he has offers from both schools. He took an official visit on January 7th to see the University of Pittsburgh.
"It was nice out there. When I went up there I liked everything, the facilities, the campus, the coaches. I got to meet Dave Wannstedt. I got to sit down and talk football with them."
Unlike with Pittsburgh, McGee has not been to Rutgers. While he was slated to visit the weekend of the 22nd, it seems as if Rutgers could still land the WR without getting the prospect to set foot on its campus.
"I was supposed to go to Rutgers a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been on a visit there but one of my teammates, Dennis Campbell, is committed there and he has been there. He's told me how nice everything is up there. I also have some friends on the team, like Markys Facyson and Dimitri Linton and a couple of other guys. They all tell me good things. I've met the coach, Coach Schiano and Coach Rizzi."
Despite not having tripped to Rutgers, McGee states that they are in a virtual dead-heat with Pitt right now.
What is McGee looking for in his school of choice?
"Depth chart is important to me and the graduation rate for football athletes is important also."
McGee is aware of the abundance of WRs on the Rutgers squad and believes that he can still come in and make an immediate impact.
"I don't want to redshirt. I think I can just come in and play right away."
McGee expects to make his final decision by this Wednesday.
