Last time Scout.com caught up with Geoffrey McDermott, we detailed the major dilemma of this two-sport athlete as one where he needed to choose between basketball and football.
With nearly one week having gone by since High School seniors can make their commitments final by signing their letters of intent, McDermott may be leaning one way. However, the operative word is leaning.
In a recent interview with Geoff's father, Mr. McDermott indicated that the arrival of several high-major basketball interest, aside from Providence, is making the situation more dynamic than was previously thought.
"Pittsburgh called the school just the other day asking for his transcript," stated Mr. McDermott. That is typically an early indication that a scholarship offer is imminent.
Mr. McDermott did go on to add his impression of the Rutgers football program and staff.
"I myself was very impressed with the coaching staff. Just the way that they operate. I was very impressed with Coach Schiano and what he did not that long ago. When Coach Pasqualoni got fired, Coach Schiano was the only college coach that called him. The showed me how genuine a guy he really. The image that he portrays to me is that he is a real honest person and that is just one example."
Though Mr. McDermott is highly praising of the Rutgers staff and program he indicated that the final decision, if it is in fact football, will be that of Geoff's alone.
"I won't try to influence him, I'll only try to help him reach his decision."
