Since Coach Greg Schiano has been the head man at Rutgers University, recruiting in Florida has become a priority for his coaching staff. This year will be no different as Rutgers will hit the recruiting trail hard in the Sunshine State.. One of the prospects that will draw their attention is John Lubischer of Boca High School. The 6-foot-4, 255 pound defensive end/tight end recently transferred over to Boca High from Cardinal Gibbons. Last year for Cardinal Gibbons, John registered 45 tackles and 2 sacks on defense. On offense he had 12 catches for over 100 yards.
Scout.com spoke with John in a recent interview and asked him why he transferred to Boca High, which schools lead at this time for his services, what camps he will attend and where John is originally from. Here is what he had to say, "I transferred to Boca High to be closer to home. They also throw the football more to their tight ends."
When it comes to his top schools Lubischer currently favors schools from the ACC and Big East. "I like Boston College, Rutgers, Miami, Florida and Duke. The reason for me liking Boston College and Duke is because, right now they are recruiting me the hardest. Miami and Florida are two great programs that do very well. The reason for picking Rutgers is that I am from New Jersey and Coach Susan who I have called is recruiting me to come there."
John is looking to go attend camps this summer at Florida, University of Miami, Florida State, South Florida and Central Florida. He will also visit the Rutgers camp in South Florida toward the beginning of summer. John participated in the Rutgers camp up in New Jersey and the one down in Florida last year. Boston College and Georgia may top also be schools he visits this summer.
Recently Floridakids.us put together its first Annual Perfect Competition camp. John was one of many high profile Florida athletes in attendance. We asked him what he thought about the camp, "It was great. Everyone involved did an incredible job. I really appreciated the opportunity to go against some of the best athletes in Florida."
As of now John has only been offered by Duke University. He will visit the University of Central Florida this weekend and an offer from them is a strong possibility.
There are certain characteristics that some prospects will favor, when looking to choose a school, over others. What it will take to get Lubischer's commitment and when may he want to pull the trigger?
"Getting division one offers is one of the first things I wanted to accomplish. On top of that education is important, a place where they play good football and those that are at the school I have to get along with. I know that everyone does not make it to the NFL, so what the school can provide from and educational standpoint will be very important."
Lubischer added that he would prefer to make a decision on a school before the start of his senior season.Mike and the Big Dog LLC
