Rutgers continues their recruitment of South Florida with the commitment of Burnon Anderson. Anderson plays both TE and WR for Plantation High School. However, Rutgers recruited him as a safety and WR. At the Rutgers camp in South Florida, he was timed at a 4.5 forty. For a 6'1"-210lbs player, that is a very solid time.
Anderson stated that he informed Coach Schiano of his impending commitment four days ago. He stated that Coach Schiano was excited and immediately brought it to the attention of Anderson's recruiting coach - Darren Rizzi.
During Anderson's recruitment, he developed a good relationship with Coach Rizzi resulting in Anderson calling Rizzi twice a week. This was one of the main reasons why he made his decision. He stated that, "I have talked to a lot of recruiters and coaches, but none of them showed me the 'love' that Rutgers did and I wanted to go where I felt the 'love'".
Anderson received strong interest from program such as Pittsburgh, Miami, Auburn, Alabama, and FSU. However, Rutgers and Florida International were the only schools that provided him with a written scholarship offer. Anderson stated that many of the schools were waiting for a qualifying SAT score (890), which he received only two weeks ago. As a result, he anticipates many of the schools that were interested in him to start tendering scholarship offers. If this becomes reality, Anderson stated that he will keep his commitment to the Scarlet Knights. However, there is one school that might tempt Anderson: Miami. He grew up a Canes fan. He stated that there were only two schools in Florida that he might have attended, Florida and Miami. Otherwise, he was intending on leaving the state.
Although he has yet to take an official or guided tour of the Rutgers campus, he is somewhat familiar with the campus. During spring break, he visited the New York-New Jersey area and took the opportunity to visit the Rutgers campus. He stated that he liked the campus and what he could see of the facilities. Another big attraction for him was the school's proximity to New York City. He fell in love with New York City during his short visit and looks forward to visiting the city while attending Rutgers.
Regarding his future position, Anderson stated that Rutgers recruited him as a WR/S. However, he does not mind which position he plays. He stated that "they can put me on the offensive line, I do not care".
Anderson states that he plans to major in Sports Management or Sports Medicine.
