During his junior campaign, Phillips threw for 1,400 yards with eight touchdowns. He added 600 yards rushing. The 6-5, 225 pound gunslinger has received five scholarship offers, and he is not giving one school an early advantage.
"I have offers from Rutgers, Maryland, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. I haven't really be able to narrow down any of the schools yet. I know other schools are beginning to fill their spots. I talked to Maryland the other day, and they received a quarterback commitment from Maryland. I think they will take another quarterback though. There were a few other schools I was looking at who won't take any more quarterbacks. Virginia was one school I was considering, but they got a quarterback already," said Phillips.
When asked a specific time-frame as to when he might make a decision Phillips replied, "Well, I know I want to visit Kentucky and take a few more visits this fall. I have not been able to see a few of these schools. I don't know what they have to offer. Hopefully, I will have my decision before Christmas."
"I want to find a place that is very strong in academics. I want a good coaching staff and good facilities. I also want to see the direction of the program," Phillips added.
One school Phillips is considering is Rutgers. Though it is further north than Phillips had hoped for, they do offer something the South Carolina gunslinger is wanting.
"I know at Rutgers I would be going into a really great academic situation," said Phillips. "It's way up north in New Jersey. I will have to check them out. I am being recruited by Coach [Craig] Ver Steeg. He seems really nice. He is a very personable coach."
