RU Opens Camp - Images & Notes

Under the hot and hazy skies so reminiscent of the dog days of summer Rutgers Football embarked on its fifth season under Head Coach Greg Schiano. Despite it being the first day of camp, this year's version of the Scarlet Knights looked the part of a college football team with a chip on its shoulder setting out to prove something.

Camp 2005 - Day 1

The weather was not downright hot but the 80F+ temperatures and high humidity to go along with drizzly skies above made it less than ideal conditions for Day 1 of summer camp.

Remarks
So. K/P Jeremy Ito looked like he was in midseason form nailing everything kicked from the 25-yard line at least 20 yards deep into the stands.

So. TE Kevin Brock has undergone a complete makeover. Making the position switch to tight end, Brock has embarked on a weight-training regimen that will remind folks of the physical transformation that Anthony Cali went through when he moved to tight end.

Fr. DT Chris Dirksz came on board with high marks and in his first day of practice the youthful Scarlet Knight did not disappoint.

Jr. RB Justice Hairston displayed leadership-type intensity on the field, seemed quite vocal and very enthused.

Fr. LB Damaso Munoz has bulked up significantly since we last saw him at the Rutgers camp last year. Munoz showed very good instincts to the ball and picked off a pass that he ripped from the WRs hands.

So. QB Mike Teel has been annointed by many as the heir apparent to Ryan Hart and it was very easy to see why. Teel showed a great touch time and time again.

Fr. Gary Watts displayed a lot of quickness off of the edge and lived up to his top 100 Florida rating.

News
Chris McClover, out of Dillard HS in Florida, will not enroll at Rutgers.

Anthony Miller's status with the team remains as of now, unclear.

All incoming freshman, save McClover, Salinardi, and Messam, suited up for the first day of camp.

As the 2005 campaign begins, hope is that the team is on the winning end of the seven or more games.
