Where Does RU Stand with Top FL Prospect?

At 6-feet-2 and 192-pounds A.J. Jones (Tampa, Middleton, FL) is one of the top linebacker prospects in the country. The Florida star has garnered the attention from colleges around the nation and recently revealed his Top 5.

At 6-feet-2 and 192-pounds, A.J. Jones has the physical build to dominate at the high school level.  Leading his team with in excess of 100 tackles last year, Jones did just that while showing flashes of brilliance and an instinct for the game that cannot be taught.  In addition to playing on the defensive side of the ball, Jones also helped his squad offensively by recording 10 receptions for 450 yards and 6 TDs.

Jones has had a busy summer season thus far.  He attended the Florida three day camp in June, the Alabama camp, and made the trip up to New Jersey to camp at Rutgers for the Scarlet Knight's three day camp.

Having had an entire summer to become more familiar with some of the schools topping his list, Jones is now focusing on his upcoming senior season.

"We just had our pre-season kick-off classic.  I had about 8 or 9 tackles."  While Middleton finished the game in a 7-7 tie, Jones and his squad still have plenty of time to prepare for Jefferson on August 26th.

Jones recently released his Top 5 list of favorite schools.  Given a recent offer that came in, that list underwent a slight shift.

"I like LSU, Florida, USC, Alabama, and recently I just got offered by Tennessee so they're in there also," stated Jones.

Jones indicated, however, that although he favors the aforementioned five schools, there are others that are currently on the outside and could "creep back into the picture".

Those schools include Rutgers, Ohio State, and Auburn.

Jones has over two dozen offers, including several from some of the top programs around the country.  Given the kind of interest he has received, what kind of things puts Rutgers in the picture for Jones?

"They [facilities] were really nice.  I go to Florida a lot, and I have been to other schools, and I think that Alabama and Rutgers have the best facilities I have ever seen.  I like the stadium [at Rutgers].  It is unique, it's not like other stadiums," stated Jones.  Jones was particularly impressed with the open end of the stadium, indicating the uniqueness in atmosphere as something different and something he enjoyed.

Rutgers Defensive Backs Coach Chris Demarest is recruiting the Tampa Middleton LB.

"Coach Demo, he's really cool and he's really funny.  He comes at you straight and tells it like it is."

Jones' parents, to which he is grateful to for being besides him, and his coaches, will help him in selecting his college.  "I wouldn't have made it here if it wasn't for them [parents].  My mom, she just always makes me want to work harder and be the best I can be.  And my dad, he shows me a lot of support on the football side by coming to my games."

"My goal this year is to help my team get to states.  Once we get our chemistry together we'll be tough to stop."
