Corey Barnes Earns BE Honors

Sr. DB Corey Barnes has been recognized by the BIG EAST Conference as Special Teams Player of the Week. Barnes put the first Scarlet Knight touchdown on the board after recovering and returning a punt block for a touchdown. Rutgers extended their lead to 10-0 after the score and would leave Syracuse victorious, 31-9.

Rutgers Sr. DB Corey Barnes' put the first Scarlet Knight touchdown on the board after recovering a punt block and returning it 16 yards for the score. So. Specialist Jeremy Ito had put Rutgers on the board earlier and Barnes' heroics extended the Rutgers lead to 10-0.

Barnes' all-around brilliant day was capped off when he returned a Syracuse fumble for a 26 yard touchdown. That gave Barnes his second score of the day. The Sr. Scarlet Knight Defensive Back also contributed three tackles on an afternoon that saw Rutgers win at the Carrier Dome for the first time since 1986.

Barnes' [Miami Carol City HS, Miami, FL] becomes the second Scarlet Knight to win the Big East Special Teams Player of The Week award this year joining fellow teammate Willie Foster. Foster has won the award twice this year.

Additionally, Rutgers LB Devraun Thompson was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
