NYC's Mike Meggett Draws National Attention

An All City and All Coaches pick in 2001, Mike Meggett looks to be one of the more heavily recruited players coming out of New York City this year.

I talked to one of New York City's top players on Monday night. Mike Meggett, the cousin of Dave Meggett, will be one of the hottest prospects in the east before the season is over.

Meggett out of Fort Hamilton HS is a 6-1, 204 lb safety, wide receiver with a 4.5 clocking in the forty yard dash. Last year at safety Mike had 81 solo tackles including 9 for loss. He had 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 4 interceptions including one he brought back 60 yards for a touchdown. At wide receiver last year his talent didn't show as Fort Hamilton focused on a running game  and as Meggett got double coverage in every outing. That was due to his sophomore performance when he caught 38 passes for 640 yards and 7 touchdowns.

At the next level Mike is looking to play the safety position. Possessed of great vision and instincts he is noted as a player who can be counted on to cover the safety position for four quarters of errorless play.

Last year he was First Team All City and voted also to the First Team All Coaches Team.

A full qualifier Mike is noted as a hard worker and a team player. He has received an early offer from  Michigan State with Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan, Syracuse, Virginia, Wisconsin, Iowa, Notre Dame, Maryland and North Carolina among the schools showing major interest.

Mike is looking for two major things in the school he will attend. He is looking for a school with a good criminal justice program and a school where he can play early.

Mike Meggett is an outstanding prospect who will probably be become one of the more sought after players in the east before all is said and done.
