Red Bank always has a special importance to me. I grew up there only a stone's throw from Red Bank Regional HS. Lately Red Bank has been a source of interest for me for a second reason. Red Bank is producing top football players year in and year out. Last night I talked to one of them. Shannon Rice out of Red Bank Regional High School is the latest in a long line of top players coming out of the Red Bank area.
Shannon is 5-11, 205 with a 4.7 in the forty.
He is linebacker all the way. Last year Shannon had 85 tackles, 2 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 2 passes batted down and 2 forced fumbles, one of which he recovered and returned for a 60 yard touchdown.
Early interest in Shannon is coming from Rutgers, Virginia, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and others and his favorites at this point are Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia.
A full qualifier Shannon is mainly interested in going to a school where he can play early and it doesn't matter to him if that school is close or far away.
Shannon is a physical player with good speed who is noted as a sure handed tackler. He'll be camping at the Syracuse camp and possibly at the ECU camp later this year.
Stay tuned throughout the season as we keep our eyes on this top prospect.
