Baseball - RU blasts it way into Big East Championships

JAMAICA, NY - Trailing 10-9 in the eighth inning and time running out on its postseason chances, junior Val Majewski (Freehold, NJ) blasted a two-run home run to lift Rutgers to a thrilling, 11-10 win over St. John's today, which sealed fourth place in the BIG EAST standings and a spot in the 2002 BIG EAST Championship. Ryan Molchan (East Brunswick, NJ) was the pitching savior, holding SJU scoreless over the final 3.2 innings to earn the win. With the split today, Rutgers ends its regular season with a 32-20 mark, including a 15-10 record in BE play.

Football Recruiting

Many colleges have stopped by Delbarton high school in Morristown NJ to see QB Mike Loree. Loree is 6-5 and 220 pounds. Last year, he threw for 1802 yards and 21 touchdowns with only five interceptions. He completed 96 passes on 173 attempts. His size and stats has colleges all over the country stopping by including Notre Dame. "The only offer I have so far is Rutgers. Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State have called me. Miami, Stanford, Boston College, Michigan, Notre Dame, Maryland and Rutgers have come to my school." Loree also said there were a host of other schools lined up to stop by in the coming weeks. -- QB Mike Loree getting attention


Women's Basketball

Aquisha Cahoe, a 6-foot forward from Carver High School in Philadelphia, signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Rutgers women's basketball team earlier this month, her coach Joe Ryan said yesterday.

The Rutgers spring game was dominated by defense as three Ryan Sands field goals helped the White team beat the Scarlet 9-7. All wasn't doom and gloom for the Scarlet Knight offense as sophomore Clarence Pittman ran for 77 yards and senior QB Ted Trump was 11 of 21 for 137 yards.

A 6-2 native of Baltimore, Md., Bryant played two seasons for the Wildcats. As a freshman in 2000-01, the product of St. Thomas More averaged 5.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game despite battling illness through January and February.
