Trailing 10-9 in the eighth inning, with time running out on his team's postseason chances, junior Val Majewski blasted a two-run home run to lift the Rutgers baseball team to a thrilling 11-10 win over St. John's, splitting Sunday's doubleheader.
The Scarlet Knights, who lost the opener 3-1, finished fourth in the Big East standings and earned a spot in the conference tournament with the win. Rutgers, the fourth seed, will play top-seeded Notre Dame in the first round of the double-elimination tournament on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Commerce Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater. No. 2 Virginia Tech and No. 3 Boston College play in the nightcap.
