Two Down for Nixon

At 6-foot flat and 175-pounds James Nixon is one of the more coveted prospects on the East. AFter taking officials to Rutgers and Virginia, Nixon is all set for his next visit.

Connecticut cornerback/running back James Nixon (6-0, 175, 4.4) said he favors Virginia (CB, 12/9 official visit) over Maryland (WR/DB, 1/13), Rutgers (12/16), Connecticut (WR/DB, 1/20) and Penn State (DB). All have offered except the Nittany Lions.

"I Iike offense more but it really doesn't matter to me," said the youngster from Hyde Leadership High School in Hamden. "I'll play on either side of the ball. I just like to have the ball in my hands. I'm pretty aggressive. I can turn and run fast on defense and I can catch up to people fast. If there is anything I could work on, it would be on my consistency."

Nixon's team has won back-to-back Class S State Championships and had a 12-0 record this season. As a DB, he had 38 tackles and two interceptions. Nixon also rushed for 1600 yards and 18 TDs.

"I probably won't decide until a few days after my final trip to Connecticut," he said. "I haven't told any college coaches that I think I'm coming to their school. But I would say that based on the trips I've taken, I'd say there's a 65% chance I'll go to Virginia. I'm going to visit Maryland this weekend with my parents. They haven't come on any of my other trips.

"Between Virginia and Rutgers, my best trip so far was Virginia. I spent more time there with the players than the coaches and I bonded more with their team."

Nixon reports a 2.4 core GPA and will retake his SAT on Jan 28. He needs to improve his score.
