Markus White Commits to RU

Standing at 6-foot-4 and 226-pounds, Markus White by way of John I. Leonard (Lake Worth, FL) has decided to end his recruitment and select his future collegiate destination: Rutgers.

Markus White is a 6-foot-4 and 226-pound standout by way of John I. Leonard (Lake Worth, FL). White, who recorded 63 tackles and 10 sacks as a senior, held offers from Rutgers, Akron, Western Michigan, and Iowa.

"Yes, I committed to Rutgers today," stated White.

"I called Coach [Schiano] today at the school and told him I wanted to come onboard. And he said he was really happy to have me."

What put Rutgers over the top? "They worked really hard at recruiting me. They brought their head coach to see me at my house, they brought their defensive line coach to see me. And he's from New Jersey and he only came by to see me."

Rutgers Defensive line coach Cary Godette made quite an impression on the future Scarlet Knight.

"Coach Godette, I know he's a real good coach because he's coached in the league and he's put guys in the NFL. He's putting two of his guys in the draft this year and I know that if I work hard that he is going to give me a chance to do some good things," stated White.

White, who visited Rutgers in mid-December was pleasantly surprised by his official trip to the New Jersey based school.

"I was shocked because I really thought I would be turned off, but I wasn't," said White.

One of the bright spots, stated White, was the abundance "of Floridians up there", giving him others he can relate to and to some extent, be reminded of home.

In regards to Kenrick Ellis, one of the top uncommitted linemen in the nation, White offered the following:

"I'm not sure what he's going to do. I know he just got back from South Carolina this weekend. I think he's supposed to head up to Michigan for an official trip next weekend," stated White.

"But it's really just between Rutgers and South Carolina right now. I'm going to try to convince him to come up north with me," concluded White.
