Ray Rice had a very productive freshmen year at Rutgers that help the school to reach their's first bowl game in 27 years. This has proven to be a two-edged sword. Although his efforts assisted Rutgers football on the field, his abilities precluded the school from obtaining the commitment of a true TB. Greg Schiano and staff hope that a late visit from former Virginia commitment Kordell Young changes this trend..
Last weekend, Young visited the campus of the University of Virginia. Although Young had made his commitment to the school in July and wanted to go to the school since he was first recruited, his official visit was missing that feeling that he was hoping to have from a school that would be his home for the next four to five years. He stated that "I did not click with the team. The feelings that I thought I was suppose to have was not there for me". Young informed Coach Groh of his concerns and his desire to take another visit to ensure that Virginia was or was not the place for him.
Rutgers was selected as the place for his visit because Young felt that Rutgers was the team that wanted and needed him the most. For Young, the visit was a good one. The Rutgers team chemistry, the player to coach bond, and the team's will to be a better team were the things that impressed the star RB. His host was Tiquan Underwood. Due Underwood's familiarity with Young's neighborhood, the two got along well. As a result, Young felt really comfortable during the entire visit. Another reason for his comfort was the fact that no one pressured him by saying that he should not go to Virginia. Young stated that "they allowed me to be me and get a real feeling for the place". He further stated that "it (Rutgers) is a good school and they will be good in the years to come".
The fact that Ray Rice would be one year ahead of him, if he were to attend Rutgers and not get redshirted, was not a problem. He stated that competition does not bother him.
Although Young is reconsidering his commitment to Virginia, he stated that he is still unclear where he might attend school. He has liked Virginia from the very beginning of his recruitment. The ACC along with the success of the Virginia program and the fact that the team is an established program is a real positive for him. For Rutgers, he likes that they are an up and coming program along with the fact that he feels that they will be a good team in the coming years.
There is one criteria that Young has for a decision. He is looking for a program that will provide him the best opportunity for success both on and off the field. Therefore, he plans to take the next few days to make a decision and sign with that school on Wednesday.
Scout.com will be there to report on Young's final decision.
