Omar Savage, 6-5, 230, 4.8, DE, Piscataway HS
Early on in the recruiting season a knowledgeable observer of the New Jersey high school sports noted that Omar Savage, "will challenge Wayne Hill's Olsen as top DE...". I got a chance to talk to Omar on Sunday and here are my noted.
Omar is a 6-5, 230 DE/ TE who was an all area performer last year. Although he played some tight end that was mainly in the capacity as a blocker. It is at defensive end that Omar projects at the next level. Last year he 55 tackles , 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 6 sacks, 12 tackles for losses and 1 pass knocked down. Recruiters note that his greatest strength is ability to get off the ball fast and beat the offensive linemen before they can set up. He has six offers so far. They are: Purdue, Indiana, Wisconsin, Rutgers, West Virginia and Duke. In terms of his final choice of a school he considers himself wide open but notes that he is being recruited the hardest by Rutgers, Syracuse and Indiana. About Rutgers he noted: "Rutgers is a good school, I like what I have seen. I like the coaches there."
Omar is a full qualifier and grades will not be a problem. He will be looking for a school with three things; a good computer science program, good coaches and a good football program.
Omar will be attending some one day camps this summer but no choices have been made as of yet.
Stay tuned as we follow the recruitment of Omar Savage throughout this season.
