PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers University head men's soccer coach Bob Reasso announced today that midfielder/forward Sammy Castellanos (Philadelphia, PA) has committed to attend Rutgers and join its men's soccer program this fall. Castellanos, who played scholastically at International Christian Academy, is the fifth member of the Scarlet Knights' 2002 recruiting class.

Castellanos is a four-year all-league selection and earned team MVP honors in each of his four seasons as well. Playing primarily as an attacking midfielder, Castellanos registered 84 goals in his four seasons of varsity action, leading his team to District Championships in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Pitt used a West Coast connection to lure a Texas recruit and enhance its reputation as Wide Receiver U. The Panthers landed an early commitment from Donald Brooks of Galveston O'Connell High School. Temple closes in on new AD hire

Several sources have indicated that the two finalists will be on campus early next week for final interviews. They are De Paul AD Bill Bradshaw, who previously held that position at La Salle in the early 1980s, and Kevin Anderson, the Associate Athletic Director for Development at Cal-Berkeley.

Big East Basketball

As he tries to find a buyer for his Virginia home, new West Virginia coach John Beilein also is trying to sell the Mountaineer basketball program to a public whose confidence wavered after an 8-20 season.

Beilein, who replaced the retired Gale Catlett in April, has been traveling the state in hopes of winning back fans' support.

''You can't bypass any opportunity to build your foundation here,'' Beilein said. ''You meet every person you can meet.
