Desmond Stapleton talks about his recruitment

It is normal for siblings to play at the same school with younger brothers following their older siblings to a school. However, younger brothers might want to either create their own identity or choose a program using their own criteria. For the younger brother of Rutgers starting center, Desmond Stapleton, he is looking forward to selecting a school on his own criteria.

It is normal for siblings to play at the same schools with younger brothers following their older siblings to a school. However, younger brothers might want to either create their own identity or choose a program using their own criteria. For the younger brother of Rutgers starting center, Desmond Stapleton, he is looking forward to selecting a school on his own criteria. At 6'5"-305lbs with good mobility, Stapleton has attracted the attention of Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, and Maryland with more programs inquiring daily.

The obvious question is how much will the fact that his brother playing for Rutgers effect his recruitment. Desmond states that because of his brother playing for Rutgers he has a great deal of familiarity with the program. He stated that "the coaches are very nice and show me a lot of love. The technology that they use is the best that I have seen". This familiarity provides Rutgers with an edge over many of his suitors. However, Desmond states that he will select the school that is best for him and the fact that his brother plays for Rutgers will not play a great deal into his decision making process.

Desmond would like to attend a school in the eastern portion of the country and would not mind playing in the Midwest. However, he would rather not play on the West Coast or too far away from home. Another factor is early playing time. He would like the opportunity to contribute as a sophomore rather than waiting until his junior or senior year. But he would not mind redshirting and taking the opportunity to get acclimated to the school and the new level of competition. The final factor is the prestige of the school. He is looking for a school that is building and striving for success.

Desmond has the following to say about his current suitors:

  • Connecticut - They are a good team. However, "I have not had a chance to really look into the program. During the Junior Day visit, I hope to find out more".
  • Maryland - They are a good team. Although they had a tough schedule last year, they have a lot of returning players. The coaches feel that they will have a good season this year. .
  • Pittsburgh - "I have not had a chance to really look into the school. But I like the coaches."

In the next few months, Desmond intends on attending Junior Days at Connecticut, Maryland, and Penn State.

During the summer, he plans on camping at Maryland and Penn State. As for combines, he will participate in the Elite Combine and the U.S. All-American Combine at Rutgers.
