NJ's Top LB discusses his recruitment

The trend in college football has been to recruit smaller LBs to gain speed in your defense. Therefore, Manny Abreu is an unusual LB who has good size with speed and explosiveness to match. Check what he has to say about his recruitment.

Manny Abreu from Union Hill HS, Union City, NJ is arguably the #1 LB in the state of NJ. The 6'3 ½ 230 LB has sent his film out to many schools on the east coast and he has already garnered offers from 12 schools. "The schools that I am looking at are Rutgers, Florida, Maryland, PSU, Duke, BC, Virginia, WVU, Uconn, UNC. All of them have offered and have been keeping in touch regularly". He states that the most crucial elements in his choosing a school would be a general feeling about the institution, the relationship with the staff, players, an enthusiastic vibe and a sense of fun. "If I don't feel as if I am going to have fun at the school, it is not going to work out".

As of know, Manny has visited 3 schools: Rutgers, Maryland, and UConn. He was at Maryland last week and has developed a good relationship with the coaches. He likes Maryland's history with placing players into the NFL. He was also at UConn yesterday and had a good time up in Storrs. And to Rutgers he has visited numerous times, most recently this past junior day. On RU, he loves how everything is new in terms of the facilities and the weight room. He is also comfortable with the school from a solid relationship with fellow Dominican and Union Hill Hiller Pedro Sosa, the starting LT for the Scarlet Knights.

In addition, we had the opportunity to speak with his Head Coach Joe Rotunde this evening. "Manny is just a special kid. He is humble and gifted. In terms of his body, you can see him turning from a boy to a man. He turns 18 next weeks and he is just changing into a man. He is physically gifted. The way he explodes, his acceleration, those are things that make him just jump out at you in his film. Schools have looked at his film and simply offered on the spot. He is just that good of a player, but also a great kid".

In terms of his home university, he is being recruited by coaches Susan, Flood and Greg Schiano. And rightfully so the Knights are making this young man a main priority for the up-coming recruiting season. "Manny just loves Greg. And I love the way he has handled Pedro. He has given him the opportunity to flourish and develop, and we think he has a chance to be an NFL player. I also cannot say enough about the way Coach Flood has groomed and taught Pedro to become a better Offensive Lineman. To see Pedro and this program in Arizona this past winter was just great. These coaches take care of their kids and really headed for big things".
