Harry Flaherty has the eye of many programs

Harry Flaherty is one of those student-athletes who excels both on and off the football field. He is among the names to watch during the 2007 recruiting season. Find out what he has to say about his recruitment to date.

Many recruiting experts share the common thought that the 2007 football class in New Jersey is among the deepest in years. Red Bank Catholic's Harry Flaherty is among the many players that shows the evidence of that depth of the class. At 6'3"-220lbs with 4.8 speed in the forty, Flaherty can play DE, OLB, or TE at the collegiate level. In addition to his abilities on the football field, Flaherty carries a 4.0 GPA and has scored an 1850 on the PSAT. His abilities both on and off the football field has attracted interest from Virginia, Boston College, Duke, and Princeton along with a scholarship offer from Rutgers.

Since Rutgers was the first team to offer, there are currently his favorite. The fact that the Scarlet Knights received their first bowl bid in 27 years displayed the improvements that the team has made under Coach Schiano. He attended the Rutgers Junior Day, where the Rutgers football team was honored during the halftime of one of the basketball games. The event caught his attention and displayed to him that the team is going in the right direction.

In addition to visiting the Rutgers campus, Flaherty has also visited the campuses of Boston College and Virginia. Flaherty found the UVa campus to be "great". He also likes the success that the Cavaliers have had in the last five years along with the high level of competitiveness in the ACC. Last summer, he attended the football camp at Boston College. Flaherty likes that the school is not too far away from home and the success the team has had in bowl games.

As the interest of schools increase along with the scholarship offers, Flaherty has developed three factors that he will use to make a decision:

  • How interested is the program has in him? - The first schools to offer will have an advantage.
  • Academics of the school - He is looking for a school with a good academic reputation.
  • Level of the program - How serious do they take their program?. - How much dedication is shown to winning games and getting the best players possible.

As far as a decision, he will take all of his visits before making a final decision.
